SHRADH: WHAT SHOULD BE OFFERED?


Shraddham: What must be offered on the day of Shraddha?

The following Pulses, Grains & Vegetables are considered as the best offerings during the *Shradh (Shraddham) ceremony.  *Shardh or Pinda, is an offering made to the manes of any deceased person on his/her death anniversary.

     1.     Black Sesame seeds.
     2.     Black Gram
     3.     Wheat
     4.     Green Gram Dal
     5.     Jaggery
     6.     Black Pepper
     7.     Paddy (or) Raw Rice
     8.     Adamant Creeper (Cissus quadrangularis) (Pirandai in Tamil)
     9.     Curry Leaves
     10.  Bitter Gourd
     11.  Plantain (Raw) 
     12.  Mango (Raw)
     13.  Ber Fruit (Ziziphus jujube)
     14.  Yam & Elephant Yam
     15.  Lemon Fruit
     16.  Cluster Beans
     17.  Jack Fruit (Raw)
     18.  Honey

Important:

One part of Bitter Gourd = 100 Part of other Vegetables/Pulses
One Part of Adamant Creeper = 300 Part of other Vegetables/Pulses
One Part of Raw Jack Fruit = 600 Part of other Vegetables/Pulses

Advice to Readers: Use this Grains/Pulses/Vegetables during the Shraddh Ceremony) and also during the normal Pitru Thrpanam rituals both as an offering to the Purohits; and also on your family diet.

PINDA NOOL DOSHAM

Dosham occuring due to the Death:  If a death occurs on a day with following Nakshatra, then the death brings "Pinda Nool Dosha" to the remaining members of the family. 1. Kettai - Jyestha 2. Karthigai - Kiruthigai 3. Pooram - Poorva 4. Purattathi - Purva Bhadra 5. Pooradam - Purva Sada 6. Ayilyam - Ashlesha 7. Bharani 8. Thiruvathira - Aridra 9. PITRA DOSH PUJA IN RAMESWARAM

Methods to be followed in performing "Pitra Dosha Puja"  in Rameswaram: 1.      Go to Rameswaram and stay overnight. Get up early in the morning and take bath in the “Agni Theertham” meaning “Holy water from the Fire God” (Sea overlooking the East Temple Tower). 2.      Then you must take bath in all the “Punya Theerthams” (Holy water) that are placed inside the Temple.
