Methods to be followed in performing "Pitra Dosha Puja" in Rameswaram:

1.     Go to Rameswaram and stay overnight. Get up early in the morning and take bath in the “Agni Theertham” meaning “Holy water from the Fire God” (Sea overlooking the East Temple Tower).

2.     Then you must take bath in all the “Punya Theerthams” (Holy water) that are placed inside the Temple. You can take the help from the official guides that are licensed by the Temple Authorities. (*They wear white color shirts and dhotis). They charge Rs. 25 per head, if you take bath in a group of 15 to 25 peoples. They charge you around Rs. 200/- to Rs. 400/- (depending on the rush), if you choose to go as single (or) with few of your family members. The Guides will pick up water from well, which is inside the Temple; and they pour (or) sprinkle it on your head & body.

3.     The Old and Aged peoples may find it difficult to take bath in the “Punya Theertham”. Hence their family members can pick up the water from all the “Punya Theertham” with a water bottle, while they are bathing. You can mix the Holy water into the normal water in the Hotel bath room and ask the elder family members to take bath in the Hotel itself. The path within the Temple leading to the Holy Water remains highly slippery and crowded.

4.     After taking bath in the Holy water, you must dry up yourself and change it into the Dry clothes. You must not perform “Pitra Puja” and enter temple wearing wet clothes (or) carrying the wet clothes. *The Person who is performing the Pitra Puja must not eat till the completion of the rituals.

5.     You can perform “Pitra Puja” in the areas overlooking the sea at “Agni Theertham”. There are number of Purohits available in that place.

6.     You can also do the “Pitra Puja” in number of monasteries that are abound in Rameswaram. I wish to give the Readers the Name and Address of one of the Monastery.
Kodi Linga Madam,
2, Sambai Road, Seetharam Nagar,
Contact Person: Balraman Sastry
Mobile No: 9597836729
*The Place is located within 150 meters just opposite to West Side Tower (Gopuram) of the Temple. *Please note that the Author do not maintain any commercial interests with anyone.

7.     The charges for “Yel Tharpanam” and “Pinda Tharpanam” would be within Rs. 500/-

8.     The charges for “Shraddham” would cost you around Rs. 2,500/-. If you want to donate Rice, Pulses and Vegetable during the Shraddham will cost Rs.500/- (extra) @ it will cost you Rs. 3000/-

9.     If you want to do “Thila Tharpana Puja” along with “Thila Homam” would cost you Rs. 10.000/- *Please understand that even the “Thila Tharpana Puja” would cost more, if you want to do it in an extensive manner. Hence everything is dependent on your “Budget”.

10. Many believe that there is no need to do “Pitra Puja” thereafter, once you have performed the “Thila Tharpana Puja” in Rameswaram. Even the Purohits are also recommending it in the similar manner. But it is grossly untrue and dangerous too. The “Thila Tharpana Puja” is being recommended for the family, who has not done the Pitra Tharpanam (or) Shraddham in the past for the departed souls @ it is like seeking their Pardon and blessings thereafter.

11. Many believe that by spending few thousands of rupees for “Thila Tharpana Puja” once during their lifetime in Rameswaram will mitigate all their troubles. It is false and the Vedas do not recommende this kind of act.

12. Many Purohits falsely spread these kind of beliefs just to improve their financial prospects.

13. After doing the “Thila Tharpana Puja” in Rameswaram, you need to continue these rituals (Tharpanam and Shraddham) in a regular manner during the entire period of your lifetime. *You can do it in your hometown (or) any holy places including Rameswaram.

14. Please note that “Pitra Puja” would be successful, if it is done with utmost love and dedication towards the departed ancestors. Hence the success of the “Pitra Puja” is not measured in terms of the money being spent in the Puja.

15. The “Pitra Puja” would be highly successful, if the entire family members visit Rameswaram and join the Puja. The Puja would be even more successful, if the sons and daughters of the departed person do the Puja in a united manner.

16. You must release the “Pinda” in the Agni Theertham. Thus, you have successfully completed the “Pitra Puja” in Rameswaram.

17. After finishing this Puja, you must visit the temple and worship Lord Ramanatha Swamy and Lord Kasi Viswanathar. You can do the Puja in the name of your entire family members.

18. You must light up lamp with cow ghee oil inside the Temple.

19. You can donate food to the needy. Then every member of the family can have their food.

20. The Lodges in the Rameswaram maintain 12.00 Noon as their check-in and check-out time. Hence, if you make a check-in the Hotel in the early morning and make a check-out in the evening hours, then you will be charged for 2 days for your stay in the Hotel for a single day. Most of the Hotels follow these procedures to fleece the money out of the visitor’s pockets. Hence plan you travel wisely.

Pitra Dosha and Business Ethics:

There many connections to our life and death to the ethics maintained by us in our business. Here are the expectations of the every humans.

1. Wanted to live healthy and comfortably till the last day of our life.

2. Never to remain isolated from the immediate family members @ don't want to spend the aged life in a home or orphange.

3. Want to live with diginity and respect. Don't want it to be abused by their own family members.

4. Don't want to experience a slow and painful death @ bed-ridden life.

5. Don't want to undergo the agony of death.

6. Don't want to face sudden or terrible death.

When a Person dies, his/her soul will be taken to the "Pithru Logam" meaning World of Dead Ancestors. The Journey to the Pithru Logam commences on the 13th day from the date of death and ends on the exactly one year from the date of death. Hence the Journey would go on for nearly 12 months. During this journey, the soul of the dead person will undergo agony and pain for all the mis-deeds that he/she had done it in the past.

On the 4th month of the Journey, the soul will be made to travel under extreme heat with no light shades. That is, the place will resemble like a desert with no water or any vegetations. The Soul would suffer through extreme heat conditions with no water to quest the thirst. The Soul would then request the representatives of the Lord Yama (who are accompanying the soul) for relief from the heat and thirst. The Representatives of the Lord Yama would then inform the Soul that the problems are created by the Soul itself @ when the person was alive, he/she used all the unthical tactics to obtain money/income. Hence they inform the Soul that it needs to undergo this torturous journey on the 4th month of their death.

Soul: I had earned the money, only to keep my family members happy and comfortable.

Represntative of Lord Yama: You had earned the money in an unthical manner. Hence you are facing this trouble.

Soul: Everybody did it; hence I also did this. I don't have to choice to earn money in a ethical manner.

Representatives of Lord Yama: Look at your family members now. Even if any one of the family members remembers you and accepts the fact that the unthical earnings were done on their behalf, then we shall release you from the pain.

But the family members of the dead person were busy at their own work and agendas. The whole family members forget about the dead person itself.

Also the family members never recognizes the fact that unthical earnings were done by the dead person was only to make them happy. At the particular point of time, the Soul will understand one truth that the life is like train Journey. That is, the relationship will come and go in every life and they are not permanent. If you do anything unthical in the name of keeping your family members happy, then you need to pay a heavy price for that.

As per the Hindu Vedic Principles, anyone who creates or instrumental in creating a water body will attain moksha and his 21 future generations would enjoy his/her virtues. This will ensure complete protection to his offsprings and bless them with all the goodness in this life.

The creation of Water bodies like lakes, ponds, canals, tube wells, bore wells and water storage tanks that caters to the general public without any restrictions by any individual involved either directly or indirectly would bring enormous amount of Virtues to the concerned person, his family members and it is carried forward to the next 21 generations.

Similar way, if any one is instrumental in closing, destroying or polluting those water bodies would receive the Pitra Dosha that is carried forward to his/her next 21 generations.

Now let us come to the point. If you have to close a tube well or bore well in your house, do a Puja in your house and pray to both your anscestors and the God and seek their blessings. But do not build a bed room, living room, office, stair cases and toilets above that unused and closed tube wells or bore wells. Do not place any machinery above those closed wells inside a factory buildings. But you can always build a Puja room over these closed wells.

In the first place, cutting a tree or trees has to be avoided altogether. If that is not possible, for some geniune reasons, then the other options of relocating it must be tried. If that is also not possible, then following precaution has to be taken, before cutting a tree.

1. Must ensure that any bird has Nest or hatchlings are in the tree. If you find any hatchlings or the bird is in the verge of hatching, you must wait until the bird changes its locations.

2. Puja room or Prayer hall must be built over the place, where the tree had been standing.

3. You should never build a bedroom, living room or any business place above the place, where the tree had been standing.

4. You must do necessary puja before the commencement of removing a tree.

5. You should remember the cutting of the tree, by offering a special puja or/and prayer on the anniversary day.

This would ensure that you and your family members would not be troubled by the Pitra Dosha by cutting trees (that had been done out of necessity only).

Rearing a Pet animal invites some form of Pitra Dosha. Let us see a few examples of rearing a Pet animal.

1. Chaining the Dogs.

2. Caging the Birds.

3. Rearing Fish in a small glass jar.

4. Trimming the wings of the bird.

5. Locking up and tying up animals.

We are into a false opinion that we are in fact helping the birds/animals/fishes with a secure envronment to live. That is, we provide food, health care and physical security to those animals. But we strip the freedom, the fundamental rights of that animals to live freely. In one stroke, by caging a animal, we condemn them to life imprisonment on them. Thus we damage a Birth cycle of a soul; putting them into difficulties for our own selfish interests or happiness

If you really want to rear a pet animal means that you should be able to allow the animal to live in freedom as they do in the natural environment. Otherwise it would invite Pitra Dosha. Let us see the possible effects of Pitra Dosha for this type of Sins.

1. Caging a Bird/Chaining a animal
Results: 1. Could land up in Jail
                 2. Could face detention on temporary basis.

2. Trimming the Wings of a Bird/Making changes in Physical appearences of a Animal:
     Results: 1. Physical Disability
                  2. Physical/Mental disorder.

3. Rearing Fish in a Jar/Box:
Results: 1. Forced to live in cramped living space.
                  2. Damages to the existing living Place.

Just take a study on the life of peoples, who kept the Pet animals for longer time and not provided them any freedom to live. You will realize the truth behind it and start to value the importance of freedom even to your own Pets.

Everyone likes to know, what happens immediately after death?

What happens to the Inner mind & thoughts?

Would we just go into oblivion? (OR)

Would we experience a new life or a new experience?

The Hindu Vedas has clear answer to it. Let us find the sequence that happens immediately after death.

1. The Soul comes out of the body through any one of the nine openings that are in the human body. They are Eyes (2), Nose (2), Ear (2), Mouth (1), Private parts (2).

2. The People who are addicted towards the wordly pleasure would struggle to accept the reality that they are already dead; and the process could not be reversed. They struggle to get into their body to come back alive.

3. The People who had understood the ideals of spiritualism would readily accept their fate.

4. The Soul also gets a shape (body) which is called "Stuchama Body"; in this position, a Soul can move very fast, can hear what others speak, and see what is happening around it. But others can not see the Soul and can not hear what the Soul is willing to express.

5. The Soul with its Sutchama Body is not bounded by any physical laws. Thus it can penetrate the Solids. But it can not hold or handle any Materials.

6. The Soul with its Sutchsma body would look exactly like the Dead person at the time of his death.

7. Till the burial of the body, the Soul would stay near the Body only; hoping to get a chance to enter the body.

8. The Soul would come to the terms of the reality only after the burial is completed.

9. Thereafter the Soul stays 12 days in this World; preferably with its dear and near Ones.

10. During those 12 days, the Sons and Daughters have been given responsibilities. (We see the responsibility of both Son & Daughter later). Only if the Karma is done by both Son & Daughter for the ten day, the Soul would be able to get its original look & shape.

11. If the Karma is not done or not done properly, then the Soul would not regain its orginal body & shape.

12. The Soul would leave this Earth on the 13th day only.

Later, We would see every aspect of this issue in detail. But failure to do this karma by their offsprings would spell trouble to the remaining members of the family in the form of Pitra Dosha.

Pitra Dosha in the deadly form dawns on the 21 generations of the person who had committed the murder.

Let us see the who are all gets affected and type of troubles that would happen.

1. Those who had killed an another person for various benefits.

2. Those who has directly or indirectly aid a another person to commit a murder.

3. Those who induce or instigate directly or indirectly to commit a murder.

4. Those who give refuge a known killer or criminal.

5. Those who stand false testimony in defence of the murderer.

Let us see the type of murder that one can get reprieve from the God after necessary pujas.

1. Murder taking place on account of self defence.

2. Murder taking place to save the modesty of a women.

3. Murder taking place to save innocent peoples from the troubles.

Let us see the complete effects of Pitra Dosha that would fall on the heads of the Murder accused person.

1. The Pitra dosha in the severest form befall on the entire family of the accused.

2. Any one of the family member might be mentally retarded.

3. Unnatural death or accident happening in the family.

4. The Murder accused family gets disoriented and gets separated from one another in due course.

5. The worst incidents happening in sucession.

Everyone should remember that a killing a person damages the peacefulness of the next 21 generations of the family. If the killings are done on a women, aged, infant or infirm, then there are no God to help them to come out of this crisis. If a pregnant woman is killed then the accused person's family is doomed for the entire period.

There are many ethical issues involved in the business. But now a day, there are some systematic efforts to recognize the unethical Practices as of “Best Business Tactics”. Even Colleges have added some unethical practices as the Best Marketing Strategy. Let us first see, what are the ethical & unethical issues involved in the Business Activities.

1.       Paying bribes to get things done.

2.       Supplying sub-standard quality with full knowledge about the issues involved in it.

3.       Under valuation or Over Valuation of a Product.

4.       Deficient Quantity of agreed materials.

5.       Colluding with someone to swindle or defraud an individual or a business.

6.       Spreading false hood about a product or an enterprise owned by others.

7.       Spreading rumor about a non issue (OR) creating an issue to increase the Sales & Profits of a Product.

8.       Creating an artificial demand on a Product to boost profits; harassing everyone in this process.

Best Marketing Strategy does not mean that the business can be done on unethical terms. That would bring in huge money, but that also brings Pitra Dosha along with it.

This type of Pitra Dosha makes a business person to suffer the same level of agony, disappointment & defeat in his/her business life, that had been inflicted by him/her to an another person during the past period.

The Hindu Vedic Principles devise a timetable for every man & woman. According to it everyone is expected to follow this procedure.

1.       Everyone is expected to hand over their powers to their Sons or Daughters once they become mature enough to handle the family affairs.

2.       The Aged people should cling on to the God and not to their property. Only the God has the power to give them salvation. The Money & Property could be able to give imaginary security only; in fact, it creates all types of troubles for the Aged Peoples.

3.       The Aged People should divide their property on equal basis to their Sons & Daughters; they should not take decision on the basis of family and individual issues.

4.       The Aged people should divide their property, when they are physically fit; should not postpone the decision by believing that they would live for many years to come.

The crux of the problem is that anyone who fails to recognize the ascent of their Offspring’s and the failure to hand over or share power with them would eventually lead to misunderstanding with their Offspring and the In-laws. The Aged People should stay in the background and help their Son & Daughter to manage the family affairs thereafter.

Anyone who holds Business, Property and Power under his tight control, even after his/her Son is capable of looking after it, is actually doing great disservice to his/her family. Thus it would fasten the neglect of the Aged; which in turn would bring the sorrows to the future generations in the form of Pitra Dosha.

The Profession of Cooking is considered as "Noble", because they indirectly help others by feeding them. Hence they have greater responsibilities while performing these tasks. Failure to do so under some motivation, would take them directly to the courtyard of Pitra Dosha. Let us see the reason behind this type of Pitra Dosha. Cooks are expected to cook foods in the same manner as they do it for their own consumption.

1. If the food is cooked under unhygenic method.

2. If the sub-standard/adulterated materials are used for cooking.

3. If the food is prepared out of Stale material, fully knowing the consequences out of it.

4. The food should be served on a equal basis to everyone, irrespective of their importance. No separate type of food should be served to guests according to their status.

5. Food & Materials used for cooking should not be allowed to rot or decay; should not be wasted too in a lethargic or intentional manner.

If a Person who work as a Cook will be affected by Pitra Dosha, if they choose to disobey the "Vedic dictat" before them.

The Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham affects the farmers too. Let us see the reason behind these types of Pitra Dosha.

The Lands are given by the God to all living creature in these world. The Farmers are considered to be supreme because they are instrumental in feeding the billions of the peoples around the World. Hence the Farmers do not get affected by the Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham in general: but sometimes they get affected too.

1. Anyone converting a farmland into a wasteland.

2. Anyone keeping their farmlands idle for a very longer period.

Bribes not only brings in Money & Wealth; but alongside it brings the Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham, which directly attacks the offsprings of the person, who had received the Bribe.

Let us see the reason for Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham enveloping a person, who get Bribes. Bribes are given for an exchange of illegal, immoral or illegitimate favours. That is, by getting bribes the Person becomes an active partner in those immoral issues committed or initiated by someone else.

It is like paying and arranging for bombing of one's own citadel. Let us see the reason for the Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham.

1. Illegitimate favours (For Bribes) could have robbed of somebody's rightful share on a property/claims.

2. It could have destroyed an individual person's future or a fabric of a unknown family.

3. By committing illegal favours, the person (Who get bribes) wilfully & wrongfully gives his/her personal assurances to the illegal activities committed by someone else.

There are various type of People, who call themselves as Spiritualists. Let us see, who can be really called Spiritualists.

People who work towards enlightment of themselves can be called as Spiritualists. Spiritual people can live with their life partner provided both of them works towards the same goal. The job of the life partner is to aid and help the Spritualists to realize the goal of enlightment and nothing more.

Next level of Spiritualists must forgo all the wordly pleasures and move themselves towards the God by helping everyone and every creature through the divine powers that has been gained by them during their first level of Spiritualism. They are not supposed to own anything and stay at the same place for more than one night.

Now let us see the reason for the Pitra Dosha (Pithru Dosham) afflicting the Spiritualists itself.

1. Spiritualists should not own anything either directly or indirectly.

2. The actions of the Spiritualists helps their family to amaze wealth either directly or indirectly

3. Indirect action means forming a Trust, where the family members become the Trust members too.

4. Indulging in Sexual & other immoral activities.

5. Using the Spiritualism for Commercial gains.

6. Promoting the personal interest through advertisement or through indirect inducement.

Those who call themselves as Spiritualists could end up in disaster, if they choose to disobey the Vedic principles. The Vedas clearly defines quantum of punishment for the Spiritualists.

1. The Spiritualists gain the benefit of donating a single cow for every single moral actions.

2. The Spiritualists earn the curse of killing two cows for every immoral actions.

Thus the Spiritualists earn enormous amount of Sins faster than the ordinary person committing the similar type of Sins. Thus Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham would be ready to jump to the shoulder of the Spiritualists, who chooses immoral path.

Please note that anyone aiding and abetting the crime of the Spiritualists would be in the same queue along with the Spiritualists for receiving the same amount of punishment in the form of Pitra Dosha or Pithru Dosham.
